Canada 150 Project
This initiative is dedicated to documenting and celebrating the oldest architectural foundations of our city's past. We research and catalogue a comprehensive listing of properties constructed before 1867, highlighting their historical importance and the stories of their original citizens. This vital work ensures that Cornwall’s deepest historical roots are preserved and remain a source of community connection for years to come.
Award Program
The Heritage-Patrimoine Award program is designed to recognize and celebrate the exceptional stewardship of our local heritage by both residents and businesses. Each year, we honor properties that go above and beyond to maintain, preserve, and showcase Cornwall’s unique architectural and historical character. These awards raise community awareness and inspire others to appreciate and protect the irreplaceable buildings that contribute to the historical streetscape.
Designated Properties
The City of Cornwall maintains a public registry of Designated Heritage Properties, recognizing buildings for their significant architectural and historical value or interest. Our committee actively preserves the comprehensive history and detailed records for each site, including their unique features and former residents. This commitment ensures we conserve the architectural legacy that defines Cornwall's distinct historical character for future generations
Plaque Program
The Historic Plaque Program was established to formally recognize buildings that hold significant historic and heritage value within our community. This initiative allows property owners to celebrate their building’s unique past by displaying a customized plaque, which highlights its history and importance. By acknowledging these landmarks, we aim to give owners a sense of pride and commit to preserving the rich historical tapestry of our city.
